In tribute to Harry Ward, our Founder President, and as a sequel to his seminal tome "Freemen in England", it was a long-held hope that a sequel volume affectionately dubbed "Harry Ward 2" would be added some day to bring some of the potted Guild and Town histories up to date.
For much has changed in the intervening years, and, in fact, during the gathering of contributions from our member Guilds, things continued to change so much so that in many cases no sooner had scripts been submitted they had to be amended.
The task of collecting and collating all of this information was undertaken by Alan Robson, Freeman of Newcastle Upon Tyne and one time President of this Association.
The work has never been published, due to the transitory nature of some of the texts, but it has all been safely stored whilst we debate whether it should be put into print, or burned onto a CD for members to enjoy.
With the website now well established it has been decided to place the information here, safe in the knowledge that any errors, or up-dates may be quickly put right or enacted.
That also includes typographical or grammatical errors, these articles have been added without any editing following receipt.
So here follows an index of all the towns referred to, and to whose Guilds we are indebted for providing the information for mutual benefit.
We also extend our appreciation to Tony Sharp for providing the images of the various Guild, Craft Company, Court Leet and Town emblems.
Information will follow shortly...unless you find a badge with a blue border, in which case just "double-click" and the information will open up in a new window to view or save, (or print) as you wish.
